On Mother’s Day weekend, Our Place at the Table popped up in the San Francisco Mission District to honor the experience of women who place their children for adoption. In the form a dining room table “set” with personal objects, the exhibition hosted an intimate and honest conversation about birth and first mother experiences. The stories were diverse. They ranged from traumatic, coerced relinquishment, to open adoptions that later closed, to adoptions that are working well.
